Wrapping up my friend's trip (she left like 3 weeks ago.. I'm a little behind!?).. we had so much fun in France (Paris, Nice/Monacco), but we really had a nice time here in Belgium too, so I thought I'd share about a few little Belgian finds that are within 30 minutes from my door. You know i've taken advantage of living in Brussels to get to other countries, but there are many great places here in Belgium and I'm reminded that I need to make sure and "love the one i'm with" (aka, Belgique) ;)
First up is Beersel castle. It was built in the 1300's and has red brick instead of stone, which was typical for Medieval castles in Flanders (the Dutch area), vs Wallonia (the French). It's complete with a moat, drawbridge and plenty of stairs to climb and get a good view. It's tiny compared to a lot of castles we've seen, but was fun and easy to see in an hour or so. There's also a cozy tavern that we warmed up in afterwards that i'd highly recommend.
