We left behind Taormina after 4 fabulous nights and were headed to Siracusa with a stop atop Mt Etna planned.
* The good thing about going in the "off or shoulder season (April for us)" is the lack of crowds, nice weather, better prices and lack of crowds again (throngs of people can totally spoil the mood of a place so we'll give that 2 points) :) Of course, going in the off season can also be inconvenient if it means attractions are closed or have limited hours, ferries aren't running, etc.. We ran into this wanting to go to the Aeolean Islands (we weren't able to go bc of limited ferry schedules) and again with Mt Etna. There were no tours yet to take us up via ATV or with a guide, so we went as far as we could go and then did a little hiking ourselves! We were impressed by the clouds of smoke she was putting off every hour or so and were in awe of the pretty recent lava field we were now climbing on. We'd hiked in a lava field in Arenal, Costa Rica before, (wow..look at those babies!!) but this was even more impressive and closer to the action!
without further ado.. Mt Etna :)
