... towards which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. "
- General Dwight D. Eisenhower
My 3rd time to the D-Day beaches in Normandy. All 3, poignant reminders of the enormous sacrifices that were made on those hallowed grounds. I'm grateful for their sacrifice and humbled to share these moving sights with my children.
Our first time to these beaches, the hubs and I were on our first trip to Europe pre-kids, and were guided by our Parisian friend, Laure. No pictures to share as that was pre-digital age :)
Here's the recounting of our trip there last winter, after we'd moved to Europe. If you haven't read that one, you really should.. one of those, "you can laugh or cry about it" occasions! haha..
This time, we were reunited with our Parisian friend, Laure, but also her 12 year old son and mom! We'd just returned back from Croatia and the hubs had to work, so the kids, in-laws and I headed out to meet them in Caen. Here's a map of the beaches in case you need a refresher. We spent the night in Caen and headed to the beaches/sites with a private guide for the day. I HIGHLY recommend doing this with a guide. We got so much more out of it having a resident expert onhand. Would be happy to send you his info if you're going soon! He hopped in our car and off we went.
